Sacrifice means: to burn flesh.
We know that “flesh” is also a word the bible uses to describe the sinful nature.
The burning flesh of a sacrifice on the altar would send up to God a sweet aroma as you the worshipper, worship
Sacrifice means to exchange a life. The animal or substation on the altar was “in place of me”. It was considered as if it were my life on that altar. I deserved to die.
These are foundations or pillars of understanding sacrifice or true worship.
Worship is sacrifice and sacrifice is worship.
In worship and sacrifice I am laying down my life.
This is a major pillar of sacrifice
Romans 12: 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. NIV
In this worship of my whole being there is recognition of Christ’s death and sacrificial atonement.
When we chose to follow him we too are entering into that death, a death to the sinful (rebellious self centered ) nature. So Since He died for us we choose to die for Him. This is a death to sin and the self-will that contradicts God’s will.
Join me in the sweet aroma of sacrifice this week. Choose to lay down the desires of the sinful nature, the desires of the rebellious – self centered nature and pick up the new nature. Live as a new creation, brought back to life in Him.
