(This is part two in a series, though you can read it on its own just fine. You can read part one here.)
Since 1960 we have seen a clearly-devised plan of Satan released to take back the gates of our cities, states and nation. This plan has directly targeted the seats of influence.
In the United States we came a long way from the days of demon dominion that were common with other nations throughout history. Since the inception of our nation and until 1960 we were blessed with a strong Christian influence at the gates.
But things have changed. The advancing of Satan in the 60’s came at the same time that Christians were giving too much heed to rapture theology and were consequently retreating from every gate – the spheres and sectors of culture.
With the evangelical church shifting into rapture/retreat mode, culture suddenly had clearance to become more unclean and unrighteous. Clearly we’ve seen a resurgence of greed, perversity, sodomy, whoredoms, godlessness, idolatry, false religion, atheism, evolution, pluralism, etc. All of this has been flowing out of our gatekeepers and their platforms of influence. Why? Because our gatekeepers are operating from the power, wisdom and influence that comes from the “gates of Hell.”
I want to suggest that we, the body of Christ, are called to capture the leadership of all that was represented at the ancient gates. The gates of God’s power and wisdom are meant to prevail against the gates of Hell. Look at Paul’s comments on this very topic.
I Corinthians 1:20 – Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
I Corinthians 1:25-29 – Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised, God has chosen, the things that are not, that He might nullify the things that are, that no man should boast before God.
Jesus made a radical statement about our God-given rule and dominion.
Matthew 16:18 – “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it.”
Herein Jesus essentially was declaring that the ungodly rule and authority of Satan’s kingdom would no longer prevail against the rule of the righteous in the earth.
In this scripture He is setting the Church in an adversarial relationship with the gates (rule, authority, leadership) of Satan, stating that the Church shall prevail.
“Prevail” is a military term. “Prevail” suggests aggression, conflict and war.
Here He could have said…
“the rule of Hell shall not overpower the Church (God’s ambassadors of His Kingdom).”
“the counsel of Hell shall not overpower Church.”
“the leadership and influence of Hell shall not overpower the Church.”
“the wisdom and philosophy of Hell shall not overpower the Church.”
Our battle is here. Our battle is today. And, if we partner with Jesus, we, the church, will win.
