3. Holding to a wrong image of Jesus.
Christians have a calling and
mandate to be like Jesus, yet what was Jesus like?
Do we realize that He was
Excellent in all He did?
Who was He the image of
Hebrews 1: 3 And He is
the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and
upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of
sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4
having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more
excellent name than they.
What image should we have of
Jesus based on scriptures describing God?
Psalms 8:1 To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm
of David. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast
set thy glory above the heavens.
Psalm 40:5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works
which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be
reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are
more than can be numbered.
Psalm 92:5 O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy
thoughts are very deep.
Psalm 105:5 Remember his marvellous works that he hath
done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth…
Psalm 145:10 All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and
thy saints shall bless thee.
Psalms 150: 150:1 Praise
the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse. 2
Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent
4. Too much emphasis on grace and unconditional acceptance (justified laziness).
We’ve interpreted “grace” as
the favor and acceptance of God regardless of how we live and how imperfect we
happen to be.
When grace also means: The power to do God’s will. The power to represent God.
Are there yokes of
responsibility that the Lord would have us take up?
