The Prophetic dimension of Intercession:
How can we get people free from the bondage and captivity they are in?
Prayer and intercession over a specific person should be compared to the prophetic prayers and declarations over nations and cities as seen in the Old Testament and with Jesus. Many of us have been applying this prophetic understanding to our nation and cities over the last decade. We’ve been rebuking demon spirits and casting them out of our territories.
With Elijah the Prophet
Elijah commanded rain to stop over Israel and thus for a drought for three years. He did this by God’s command as a judgment against them. The judgment was to bring the people to humility and repentance. (I Kings 18) Three years and six months later he commanded the skies to bring rain. James tells us a little about these two prayers.
James 5:16 …The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the sky poured rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
James refers to this method that Elijah prayed as the prayer of faith. Why would commanding something be called the prayer of faith. Because “faith comes from hearing the Word of God”. (Romans 10:17)
If you have clear instructions or knowledge from God then you have faith. You are then called to release that knowledge and proclamation into the atmosphere of the spirit realm and God will honor it. (Isaiah 55:11)
Likewise God will give us instructions about people and show us how to pray. When He shows us how to pray we aren’t to pray some weak petition type prayer, but rather a commanding prayer of authority.
