Contend for the Whole Faith

Pastor Dwain Living in the Anointing

Contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the Saints! That’s what we are exhorted to do. That means the faith that embodies the teachings of Jesus and all that He commanded us. Are we doing that? Are we really contending for the whole faith and all that embodies the faith, or just portions of it? Are we just contending for the portions that please us or fit comfortably into our denomination?

I want to suggest to you that there is a promise we must contend for – one that many evangelicals have passed over or written off. One promise that makes all the difference in God having a church of power.

It is a promise that we must not shrink away from in this modern church age.

Promises are the keys to blessing, empowerment and dominion over darkness.

In II Peter 1:3 the writer by the Holy Spirit declares, “He has given us everything pertaining to life and Godliness through the precious and magnificent promises.” Promises are one key to a foundation of faith. When God gives a promise it becomes something that we ask for, contend for and believe to receive. Promises work to form spiritual synergy and allow for the supernatural power of God to be added to your natural potential.

I suggest that promise is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The promise was given by the prophet Joel.

Joel 2:28-29 – “And it will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. And even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”

This was not only a promise that the Holy Spirit would be poured out, but it also became a command from Jesus Himself.

Acts 1:4-5 – And gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Why was this promise given? Why did Jesus put so much emphasis on this with His newly formed nucleus of believers?  We’ll find out more soon!
