Is there value in an extended time when you pursue Jesus and let Him get closer to you?
Jesus said there is. While he was present with the disciples He said there was no need to fast, but after His ascension fasting would be one way to draw near to the one they loved and missed.
Matthew 9:15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn (pine) while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
He wants to get away with us for communion, deep friendship and intimacy.
He wants to get away with us for a romance but it’s not totally for the sake of romance
It’s also so that he can tell us what’s on his heart, so that He can give us his vision and his perspective (of which we can’t get if we don’t have a romantic encounter).
Could it be (has it ever been) that a husband wants to get away for a romantic encounter but the wife is too busy or wrapped up in things that won’t allow for such an adventure?
We are the wife in this mystery.
The fast is a consecrated time of getting away with our heavenly lover, putting him in a higher place for a season so we can know Him, understand Him and be subdued by His love.
So there’s value in coming away, there’s value in romance, there’s value in honeymoons, value in vacations, intimate times with your heavenly spouse.
Embrace this new and fresh today. Maximize this season. Make adjustments to your schedule. Watch for distractions. Humble your flesh (put it under the spirit) through the humble diet of Daniel. Guard your prayer, praise, worship and Word time.
